Destination: Parfrey's Glen is Wisconsin's first state natural area established back in 1952. I visited back in June on a rainy day late in the afternoon. Overcast sky with light rain made for beautiful photographic opportunities. I've posted a set of photos on Flickr.
Best described as between I94 on the east, and Hwy 12 to the west, north of the Wisconsin River. Google maps accurately shows its location.
How to find the glen:
A small parking lot located on the north side of the road (County DL). Just to the north is a clearly marked trail. The trail runs alongside Parfrey's Glen Creek. A somewhat rough and ready trail, good hiking boots suggested. Overall I'd describe this as a family destination. No wild place is completely safe but this trail has no roaring rivers or steep cliffs without railings. Give yourself a good two or three hours to walk and enjoy the trail.
WI DNR has an exccelent site description. Its not a pet friendly area, signs post no pets.
